Broadcasters MBC and YouTube join forces

Kpop Singers held a special concert near the Google headquarters, California to celebrate the content sharing deal between korean broadcaster MBC and YouTube.

The concert featured major artists that included TVXQ, Girl's generation, and Kara. It was also broadcasted live on YouTube for fans worldwide.

More than 20,000 kpop fans attended the free event at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. The fans that missed out on tickets were able to watch their idols from outside the theatre.

This is a valuable partnership between Korea's MBC and the largest video sharing site YouTube. YouTube was one of the main platforms that helped Kpop reach an international audience.

Songs of the Week

New year, New songs! Here are some of my fave tracks for the week.

Kim Hyun Joong - Rainsim
Kpop artist Kim Hyun Joong performed a remake of Rain's Hit song 'Rainism' on KBS music festival. Rain put some hard choreography in this song and Kim Hyun Joong was able to perform it nicely. However, only Rain can own those dance moves. Check out the the performance. What do you of Kim Hyun Joong's version of RAINISM?

Davichi & T-ara - We were in Love
Two of the biggest kpop girl groups join forces for this power ballad. Love this track!

Jay Park - Star
Here is a nice r'n'b song from Jay Park! Enjoy!

Fairies - Hero
Here is an inspiring and KAWAII song from the jpop girl band Fairies

Korean singer Rain completes basic training at boot camp

On November 17th, Kpop singer Rain had the chance to spend some time with his family and friends after finishing 5 weeks of basic military training.

Rain’s father, sister and close friends came to visit Rain at base camp.

Military pictures of Rain have been released, he looks healthy and happy – fans will be happy to see that.

It seems that Rain’s sister has been getting quite a bit of attention in media. Jung Hana recently revealed that she received a package from her brother. In the letter Rain tells her to be careful and lock the door when she’s at home. He also reminded her to wash his dog while he was gone.

Military service is compulsory for all Korean men, they are required to serve for 2 years. Rain enlisted in October this year, he has 22 months left to serve.

Kpop Music Fest 2011 concert countdown – 8 days to go

The biggest kpop concert to hit Australia – Kpop Music Fest is only 8 days away! Who’s going? The event is held exclusively in Sydney and kpop fans from all over Australia will be flying there just to see their favourite idols. I have a few friends in Melbourne who will be flying up for the event, they bought VIP tickets so they are just metres away from the stage.

Let’s remind you of all the kpop bands that will be performing: TVXQ, SNSD, Shinee, Sistar, Secret, Miss A, MBlaq, Kara, CNBlue, B2st, 4Minute, 2am.

There is an exclusive event for some lucky kpop fans. The concert organizers have organized a Rehearsal tour! How cool is that? Fans will be able to watch their idols do sound checks and see the production crew put the show together. I love all the behind the scenes stuff.

If you are going to the concert, let me know who you are most excited to see!

Kpop Superstar Rain begins his Military Service

After months of delay, the day has finally come for Rain to join the military. Today marks Rain's first day as an active soldier, he will be required to serve for at least 2 years. This news have been making headlines around the world, here is Time magazine's article.

Hundreds of his devoted fans gathered in front of the military base to see their idol before he began life as a soldier. Rain gave a military salute to his tearful fans before he walked in to boot camp in Uijeongbu, Seoul.

Rain has been working non-stop before his enlistment date: touring Korea with 'The Best Show' to farewell his fans, recording new music 'Busan Woman' and filming a movie 'Red Scarfe'.

Rain is one of the most successful Entertainers from Korea, achieving global success in 2004 when he released his hit album 'It's Raining' and starred in the hit TV dramedy show 'Full House'. He has traveled a path that others hadn't, starting his own record label, fashion line and pursuing a Hollywood Acting Career.

His profile has grown in the United States over the past few years. He starred in blockbuster films 'Speed Racer' and 'Ninja Assassin'. Time Magazine named him in their '100 Most Influential People List'.

Rain's story is inspiring. When he was auditioning for entertainment agencies, he was rejected many times. They told him that he was talented, but not good looking enough because he didn't have double eyelids. Rain kept believing in his dream and he had the self confidence to not get the popular double eyelid surgery. Eventually he met his manager, JYP - the man that would turn Rain in to a global star.

Rain will be greatly missed in the entertainment industry. His fans have tweeted many messages telling him that they are waiting for him.

Take Care Rain!!

BoA to make her Hollywood Film Debut in 2012

Listen to podcast:
BOA Hollywood film debut (110624) by CherriiPOP

BOA is set to make her Hollywood Film debut early next year - This is incredibly exciting new for BoA fans. She plays the female lead in the dance film COBU 3D. Her male lead is Derek Hough from US TV show Dancing with the stars.

The movie is directed by Duane Adler and produced by Robert Colt. I was reading a bit about the film, and it sounds like a Romeo and Juliet story. Basically their characters fall even though their families are enemies in the dancing world.

I love dance films, but sometimes they focus too much on the dancing and not enough on the storyline. I hope that this film has a good storyline because I know Boa and Derek and awesome dancers. They’ve got the dancing part nailed.

BoA is currently filming the movie in the States. She recently tweeted a photo on set. She looks really relaxed and happy. I can’t wait to see her film!

She follows the foot steps of Rain who has starred in 2 Hollywood films: Ninja Assassin and Speedracer. The Korean Wave is making a big impact in Hollywood.

Talking music & TV with guests Ben & Anh May 13, 2011 by CherriiPOP

We learnt a new word on this week's show 'Triskaidekaphobia', it means the fear of the number 13. In some countries, people avoid naming a building level '13' by calling it level 12A instead. Many people are cautious of the number 13.

I hope you guys enjoyed the show this week! Thank you to my guests Ben Morgan & Anh Chau dropping by. Here is the show's playlist.

Big Bang – Tonight
Piko – Sakurane

AND temporary Farewells to Jpop and Kpop’s Greatest: Utada Hikaru and Rain.

2010 will also bid farewells to other HUGE Pop artists, Utada Hikaru and Rain! I know, all my favourite artists are leaving me! Utada and Rain are not retiring but they are bidding temporary farewells to their fans.

Utada announced on her website that she will be taking a break from the music industry for an indefinite period of time. She has grown up in the industry and she has felt that it is time to explore a different side of life. Before the end of the year, she is releasing new compilation albums (1 in Japanese and 1 in English). New songs will be included on her Japanese compilation album and this week she released the PV to her newly released single ‘Goodbye Happiness’. I love the Music clip to this song, it’s very kawaii (cute) and it will surely put a smile on your face. It’s a simple clip, the whole MV takes place in a typical Japanese bedroom and she is singing at the desk with cute puppets popping in to frame. I love her Music clips, it’s creative and unlike American artist MV’s it’s not sexual. Utada never wears sexy clothes and dances with topless male dancers, she said it’s not her style. I admire that she stayed true to herself and didn’t succumb to pressures to be sexy to sell records.

Rain!!! Will also be taking a break from the music industry to serve his compulsory military duty. Rain has been delaying his enlistment for a long time now due to work and study commitments. It has been announced that he will enlist the start of 2011. This year has been a big year for Rain, he made his comeback on the small screen, starring in the popular TV drama ‘Fugitive: Plan B’, released a new single, there are plans that he will star in one more movie and also he is studying a masters degree. In addition, on December 31 this year he will be holding 2 special concerts in Seoul! It’s been a jammed packed year for Rain.

It hasn’t been an easy year for Rain, he has been caught up in a lot of bad media coverage over J Tune’s embezzlement drama, gambling debts. The next few years won’t get easier while he serves in the military.

I look forward to Utada and Rain’s comeback in the future. I think after their break they will be back with so much creative energy and producing remarkable music.

Son Dambi – The Female version of RAIN

A few years ago I took Hip Hop classes at Monash University. I absolutely loved in and during that time I had a quest to be the female version of Rain. In dance classes you dance in front of a mirror so you can see your form and... I saw how tragic I was LOL! When I do the moves it doesn't look quite cool or right really. I still tried to work on my hip hop attitude and dance moves. The thing is, someone has beaten me to the title of female Rain and that is Son Dambi! She made her debut 3 years ago when she was 24. During her rigorous training years she studied hip hop under famous choreographers in the US. She loved dancing so much she paid 6K each month for her dancing lessons in the US, whilst over there she fell in love with the intense dance style Krumping. It is evident that Son Dambi is an awesome dancer. Not only did she receive the best dance training she also has the talent and natural ability. She can pick up dance moves and routines very quickly.

I really love her style of music which is hip hop, dance, electro. On Youtube there are videos of her teaching dance routines to her songs, I've posted 'Cry eye' on our youtube Page. I've been trying to learn the dance steps and it's quite hard. She makes it look so effortless and stylish. I am determined to master the dance steps and If i get good enough i will record it and post up my progress on facebook.

BoA’s 10th anniversary in the Music Biz

Kpop veteran BoA is making her long awaited comeback after a five year absence from the Asian music scene. During her absence, she was working hard trying to break it in to the US music market. It's incredibly hard to break into the US market, we've watched Robbie Williams, Delta Goodrem try and they haven't succeeded yet, the same goes for BoA and Se7en. I think if they keep going for it they will succeed because they are incredibly talented.

BoA has been around for a long time, and did you realise that it has been ten years since her debut? She is a true veteran in the industry and she's only 23 years old. She released her debut album at the tender age of 13. She's got an amazing career and a lot of new artists could only hope to stick around for that long too. Just a few weeks ago, to celebrate her 10th anniversary in the industry she released her 6th Korean Album titled "Hurricane Venus". She has a new blonde look, i've posted up photos of her on facebook. She also has a new sound r'n'b, blended with electro dance music. Welcome back BoA. Let us know if you like her new sound and look.

Nine Muses make their stage debut and unleashed their debut MV 'No Playboy'

There was a lot of anticipation for new girl group 'Nine Muses' Stage debut! Last night they did their first stage performance on popular music show MNet Countdown, showing off their vocal and dance talents. Looks like they will make an impact in the music scene. A lot of comparisons are being made between them and SNSD. Fans say they are nothing a like. See for yourself!

Here is their stage debut clip.

Here is their new MV 'No Playboy'
