Girl Group Blush making waves in the US

Let me take you back to last year, a project called "Project Lotus' was set to find the next hottest girl group from Asia through a series of open and online auditions.

The call sent out by Project Lotus resulted in thousands of people auditioning online and in person. The amount of talent seen by the judges was overwhelming. After a gruelling period of auditioning, the final group was selected and named 'Blush'. Now they are being launched globally, releasing their debut single 'Undivided' which features Snoop Dog.

Kim Hyun Joong releases his debut solo album

Popular Korean singer/actor Kim Hyun Joong will be releasing his first mini album across Asia on June 8th. Key that date in fans. The album ‘Break Down’ will be released in Korea, China, Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore on the same date.

The track listing has been revealed, the song on the album are:
- Break down
- Intro (Let me go)
- Please
- Kiss Kiss
- Yes I will

Kim Hyun Joong the lead singer of the boy group SS501 decided to release a solo album a while back - it’s great to see that his album will be released very soon. Keep an eye out for it.

‘Honey it’s me’ – The cutesy virtual girlfriend iPhone application

On CherriiPOP, I have talked about virtual girlfriends before, they are quite popular in Japan where men carry around anime printed pillow covers. Now Lonely South Korean men who have trouble finding a girlfriend, can now receive phone calls from a virtual girlfriend via an iPhone application. They truly have an app for everything!

The ‘Honey, it’s me!’ was developed by Nabrix for iPhone was launched on November 30. This app has proven to be very popular; during it’s free trial period there were up to 80,000 downloads a day.

This is the first app where a virtual girlfriend named Mina, aged 22 will call the user several times a day to sweet talk. Her messages are all sugary like ‘Are you still sleeping? Time for breakfast!’ to ‘Good night, sweet dreams.’

A korean model has recorded the video and over 100 messages to warm up the hearts of single men.

It sounds like Mina is just toooooo sweet - that it is a little bit sickening. I think she needs to be a bit more realistic - to provide men with a more realistic experience of a relationship (or as real as it can be). Here is MY VERSION of the virtual girlfriend app.

Happy Weddings on 10-10-10

Many couples will be getting married this Sunday! Coincidence? No, in fact this date is an auspicious date to get married because the day, month and year are the same 10-10-10. In Asia, people believe that when you get married on this date you will live a happy life together. In the past, the dates 08-08-08 and 09-09-09 were highly popular for weddings for the same reason. In addition the numbers 8 and 9 are considered to be lucky numbers in China and Vietnam.

If you are planning to get married in the future there are two more dates that are considered auspicious 11-11-11 and 12-12-12. Key those dates in your diary!

Charice makes her debut on GLEE

Speaking of incredible talented singers, Charice the Filipino singing sensation made her debut on the popular dramedy show GLEE this week. It was the first ep for season 2 of Glee. She plays Sunshine an exchanged student with a powerful voice. Rachel (head of glee club) gets insecure and she sabotages Sunshine’s chances of joining Glee club. Charice really stole the show when she sang, she trumped everyone on the show will her extraordinary voice. I love the outfits that she wore, it was very cute! She even had a Hello Kitty Bag! I can’t wait to see how her storyline unfolds.

There were lot of Asian jokes in this ep and I thought it was hilarious. Two of the glee members are Asian so they had jokes about Asian Camp for little Kids that are good with technology, another joke about how tight the Asian community is and if something happens in it, the whole community will know. So True! I love GLEE! I’m a total Gleek!

Next week’s show is all about Britney Spears! I idolised her during highschool! I know all the words to her hit songs, I can’t wait until next week’s show!

Miss Universe 2010

The biggest beauty pageant in the whole universe, galaxy was broadcasted on the 24th of August in the Party Capital of USA, Las Vegas. Beauties from 83 nations participated in this years Miss Universe competition.

I love watching Miss Universe, its part of my staple TV viewing for the year alongside the Oscars, Emmys, Logies. The glamour, the national costume contest, question time its all just so entertaining to watch.

Asia was well represented this year with China, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia and India taking part this year. Interestingly Vietnam withdrew from competition. Philippines did incredibly well this year making it to top 5. She had a lot of support from the audience, every time she was on stage her cheer squad cheered so loud for her. None of the other girls got quite the same reception.

Australia’s Jesinta Campbell, a fresh faced 19 year old Brisbane girl did Australia very proud with her 2nd runner up and Miss Congeniality win. Her National costume was a bit odd, she wore high heeled ugg boots… enough said lol, but she is proud of her costume and I think that is awesome.

The national costume contest is a highlight of the show for me. I love seeing the outrageously, bright, feathery over the top costumes the contestants wear. Paris wore the Eiffel Tower on her head. Maybe Australia should have worn the Opera House on her head? I thought China’s costume was very simple this year, not really a standout. The costumes are quite theatrical and huge! It must need its own suitcase when packing.

In the evening wear category, most girls chose soft pastel colours. Mexico wore a show stopping cherry red dress. She really stood out in that category and the dress had so much movement when she walked, it really flattered her body. She won the contest! Congrats to Miss Mexico!
