Broadcasters MBC and YouTube join forces

Kpop Singers held a special concert near the Google headquarters, California to celebrate the content sharing deal between korean broadcaster MBC and YouTube.

The concert featured major artists that included TVXQ, Girl's generation, and Kara. It was also broadcasted live on YouTube for fans worldwide.

More than 20,000 kpop fans attended the free event at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. The fans that missed out on tickets were able to watch their idols from outside the theatre.

This is a valuable partnership between Korea's MBC and the largest video sharing site YouTube. YouTube was one of the main platforms that helped Kpop reach an international audience.

KPOP Music Festival 2011 - 1 MORE DAY TO GO

The biggest KPOP music festival is ONLY 1 DAY AWAY. Tomorrow, 12 of the biggest kpop bands will perform LIVE for Aussie fans at ANZ stadium in Sydney.

The groups performing at this epic concert are TVXQ, SNSD, Shinee, Sistar, Secret, Miss A, MBlaq, Kara, CNBlue, B2st, 4minute & 2am.

All bands have arrived in Sydney for rehearsals. Few lucky fans were invited to watch rehearsals, getting a taste of what to expect on show day. If you are lucky, you may bump in to the bands out and about in Sydney!

Fans from around Australia will be flying to Sydney for to catch their favourite idols perform live. My Melbourne friends will be flying up to Sydney to watch 2am, CNBlue. They will be giving an exclusive concert review to CherriiPOP when they come back. That will be exciting.

The full concert will air in Korea on December 3rd.

Kpop Music Fest 2011 concert countdown – 8 days to go

The biggest kpop concert to hit Australia – Kpop Music Fest is only 8 days away! Who’s going? The event is held exclusively in Sydney and kpop fans from all over Australia will be flying there just to see their favourite idols. I have a few friends in Melbourne who will be flying up for the event, they bought VIP tickets so they are just metres away from the stage.

Let’s remind you of all the kpop bands that will be performing: TVXQ, SNSD, Shinee, Sistar, Secret, Miss A, MBlaq, Kara, CNBlue, B2st, 4Minute, 2am.

There is an exclusive event for some lucky kpop fans. The concert organizers have organized a Rehearsal tour! How cool is that? Fans will be able to watch their idols do sound checks and see the production crew put the show together. I love all the behind the scenes stuff.

Kpop group SNSD to crack the US music industry

Exciting news for Kpop fans! On October 19th, popular girl group SNSD will release their single ‘The Boys’ in the US through Interscope Records. Other artists on this record label include Lady Gaga, Eminem and the Black Eyed Peas.

The girls were lucky to have Teddy Riley produce their upcoming track. Teddy has worked with the biggest names in the music industry, including Michael Jackson, Bobby Brown and Lady Gaga.

SNSD will also be releasing their third studio album in Korea on the same date. Looks like October is going to be a huge month for the girls. I’m excited to listen to all their new music. I will keep you all posted.

KPOP Music Festival hits Sydney this November

Do I have big news for you KPOP FANS! The biggest KPOP concert is heading to Sydney this 12th November. A total of 12 (yes I did say 12!!) kpop bands will be performing in Sydney. There will be a total of 6 boy bands & 6 girl bands!!! It's KPOP heaven!

Idol group members get an average of 16s of singing time in a pop song

The korean music scene is moving at light years, with new boy bands and girl bands popping up each second. They come in every size, duos, 3-, 4-, 5-, 6-, 7-, 9 members like SNSD, and 13 like Super Junior. The duration of an average pop song is a 3 ½ minutes, so you can imagine in a big group like Super Junior everyone would have to fight over the mic to sing a solo. Even if everyone gets a turn to sing a solo, it wouldn't be for very long.

Some music shows analysed the amount of time each band member gets to sing. Interestingly, results show that each member gets an average of 16 seconds to sing in the average pop song. I can sing in tune for 16 seconds so should I join a girl group? Or start my own?

The song 'OH' by girl band SNSD was put under the microscope and they found that each member gets an average of 9.4 seconds to sing. The leader Taeyeon had the longest singing time of 22 seconds. Seohyun had the shortest time of 5 seconds, she sings the lines 'Hey oppa look at me, just take a look at me' and 'Oppa just listen to me'.

Music critics say it has become more common for band members to only sing a few short lines in a song because they are vocally weak. Even though they lack vocal talent they make up for it with their looks and media savviness.

Music critic, Im Jin Ho expressed, “If they each only have just a few seconds, they will definitely neglect their primary duty as a singer and skim on improving their vocals. Members who don’t sing a lot will also develop a feeling of being ostracized and this will affect the overall performance of the group, shortening the group’s lifespan.”

Another critic, Kim Jak Ga said, “Examples of idol groups not putting in effort with their vocals are increasing by the minute and there’s noticeably less breathing space for the ones who have real talent and vocals to survive now.”
